Dancing

'Dorking' is the NEW Twerking

When I got asked to be in Tommy Frankin's video clip from Australia's Got Talent, I was told to expect something totally wacky and outrageously different. I was never expecting the day to be something I would always treasure. Picture 10 dancers all in colourful onesies, sponsored by One Piece, a bright red vintage combie van and one 'Dorking' bearded man.
The morning started with everyone arriving for hair and make up in Paddington. We all got to pick our very own Onsie (mine was $450!) and we were introduced to the Producer and her assistant with open arms. The first thing I thought of when I hugged Natasha and Jess whilst they handed out our free skull candy headphones, was how chilled and relaxed they all were. The vibe was warm, everyone was very welcoming and they instantly remembered all of our names.

Once we were all done and ready to go we met the director who thanked us all for being a part of this project and how much the production team really value that everyone was feeling at home and as family. The whole concept of this shoot was just to be relaxed, comfortable with what we do but also having fun and being ourselves.Tommy came around and shook everyone's hands and introduced himself which I found so genuine, he was just like what he's portrayed on T.V. He even offered to fix my shoes as they have and extra flap bit with printed words, back to front. He has a shoe fetish just like me.

Even though the weather was choppy changy and the schedule was being changed around, everyone kept on rolling with such ease and no one ever complained about anything.

We shot 3 scenes in different parts of the city, including Pitt St mall where we danced around one of the street drummers. Crowds started to form as we were all dorking around while some of the boy dancers were doing tricks flips and freezes left right and centre whilst most of us were trying to not dance "techniquely."

By 5pm we made it to Hyde Park and had a huge turn up of volunteer dancers wanting to be a part of this spectacular shoot. There were people at the park getting married and the director had used footage of the bride and groom dancing with Tommy in the park, it was hilarious.
The day came to a spirit-fingered ending while we all finished the last scene with a colourful bunch of dancers all in onesies grooving in the park, splashing into the fountain and a lively audience cheering us all on as the final shot, was Tommy releasing a bunch of balloons into the sky.

All in the 'dorking' zone

Tommy yelled 'GROUP HUG' and an army of onesies all ran up to him and embraced one another. It was a long yet successful day which had made everyone forget about the rain, the sweat and drenched hair but praised each other for how everyone's energy had just lifted just by one person who just looked past all the small negative issues and stood up for what he believed in. He simply reminded us especially myself that one person can impact the world by having a dream, by being passionate and by being an individual.

A big thank you to Jacqueline Doran who choreographed the whole dance, picked the dancers including myself and gave us a foot closer to fulfilling our dreams in the industry. Another big thank you to Natasha, who lifted everyone's spirits even when she was incredibly sick who also inspired us all on life in general and her beautiful story.

Look out for the video clip everyone!!

Love Tam x
